So 2015 hasn’t quite gone according to play. Predicted by PECOTA, most analysts and many fans to finish atop the AL East, the Red Sox are instead one of the worst teams in baseball: a familiar theme we’ve seen play out several times over the past few years. The pitching is awful. The hitting has been sporadic. The defense has been bad. Seriously, the pitching has been just … yikes. And we still have two months to go!
There are plenty of questions that Red Sox fans want answered both about the present and future of this team, and rightfully so. Here at BP Boston, we’ve tried to answer some of the most common ones, as well as look back on how we got here and lend some semblance of optimism as to the future. That’s how the BP eMag: Red Sox Mid-Season Update Edition came to be, and we hope to enjoy it.
Dive into Boston’s flawed pitching staff with Alex Skillin and Matt Collins. Take a fun look back at Pedro Martinez with Bryan Grosnick, and at past Red Sox all-stars with Bryan Joiner. Understand this team’s flawed architecture thanks to Matt Kory and yours truly. And don’t give up hope just yet thanks to pieces about Xander Bogaerts, per Ryan P. Morrison, and the farm system, per Nick Canelas.
It’s been an interesting year to start a website about the Red Sox, but together, we’re making it through. Thanks for reading and growing with us. Here’s to 2016 being a better year.
