This is because he has been a premier set up man, the Sox 8th inning shut down guy, thoigh he has willingly pitched multiple innings and any inning as asked, since 2013. Assuming a healthy arm, and the Sox have his medicals, he deserves a big payday for that and because it is limely he will continue to be dominant; especially, as you point out, the large contracts this year for lesser lights.
I hope and trust they settle for north of the midpoint, ideal or not, and soon. Don’t mess around with Taz and Koji. Together with Kimbrel and Smith the back end of tbis pen is awesome.
