In Strato-matic baseball - I managed the 2015 Red Sox to a first place finish and 92 wins by routinely playing this line-up against RHs:

1. Betts - RF
2. Pedroia - 2B
3. Ortiz - DH
4. Boegarts - SS
5. Sandoval - 3B
6. Swihart - C
7. Shaw - 1B
8. Castillo/DeAza LF or Holt (better ag. LHs)
9. JBradley CF

Against LHs - you put Young in left, and Ramirez at 1B. Trust me - if not for contract Shaw would be every day 1st base man (we will see lot of him). Shaw also great option at 3B against LHs as he is better as a LH against lefties than Sandoval hitting right handed.

Fascinating stuff. I'm very surprised that the Orioles, with their ballpark and all that power, are projected to score fewer runs than the Rays. Of course, no one on that team gets on base.

Lineup optimization is fun, but baseball players are human beings and not always receptive to change. David Ortiz is going to hit third or fourth, and if you bat him anywhere else he's going to be both uncomfortable and unhappy.

In the long run, that might do more harm than good.
