Sorry for the delayed response, Mark, but I'll respectfully disagree.

To an extent, sure, it might not be a bad thing for the five players made free agents. Might even be a good thing. Hard to say. But for the players from this class who got the rug pulled out from underneath them, I don't see how it's not a bad thing (for the reasons I mentioned). And if they wait until next year to sign, they'll be a year older than everyone else, and probably not as desirable to major-league teams. Plus, maybe they get injured or perform poorly in the meantime.

I don't really think the penalties are *that* harsh toward the Red Sox, and that's why I tried to focus on the young players involved. It just seems like a lot of MLB's decisions are made with little regard toward young, non-unionized players, and this felt like another good example.

It could be worse for the 5 players????? So the worst case is them getting to keep all of the money the Red Sox gave them last year, while if a team gives them anything over 300k then they get to keep that money that they most certainly didn't get last year. Yea I'm sure the ones that are getting extra money are crying all the way to the bank.

And it's not the end of the world for the players the Red Sox were going to sign and now can't. They can sign next year and they even have a year to physically grow and mature which could add even more to their bonus if they show more skills than potential.

This article sure sounds like one written by a Red Sox homer who wants to make it sound like MLB was a big mean bully.
