Apart from corner infield spots, the Red Sox "bright future" is playing in the majors now, between their young core of position players and a pitching staff comprised almost entirely of 28-year-olds (or thereabouts). Their only real position player needs for the next five years - first and third - ought to be covered by their top three major-league-bound position prospects in Devers, Sam Travis, and Bobby Dalbec. They are likely to need some new pitchers in about three years, and Groome should be ready by then. That gives them four or five years to restock their farm system with new talent, which is plenty of time. They'll want to draft well now, and then in two or three years also make some trades for upper minor-league talent, so they're ready when the current wave of youngsters starts hitting free agency. This will be Dombrowski's big test - will he get the Red Sox back to where they have a top-notch farm system in 2020? Only time will tell.

Rafael Devers is clearly a few steps behind Xander Bogaerts, who posted superior numbers in the Carolina League at a similar age. I would not be surprised if Devers falls short of Bogaerts' current status.

Yeah, kind of first to worst in the minors for a while. But the future, at least for several years, is the kids DDo held on to (the B's from Barnes to Brockstar), CV and Swihart, etc. . . . plus Devers, Travis, Groome, etc. . . . plus the young stud pitchers the former #1 Farm brought us like Sale, Pom, Thornburg, Smith, Kimbrel, maybe Abad. Together with the veterans, this is a much better team than the 2016 A.L.E. Champions.

So, we can enjoy the Red Sox contend for the next several years, even as we enjoy the process of rebuilding the Farm from worst to first. Exciting times ahead
