Erik, I think expectations of a big prospect return for Stanton are greatly unrealistic. It's a gigantic salary dump to enable the sale of the team. Miami will end up taking one or two young cost-controlled major league players in return from whoever takes Stanton, in my opinion.

Why Martinez AND Stanton? I can see Martinez, but Stanton would cost a TON of prospects that the Sox just do not have anymore. Dombrowski has already gone to the candy store and spent his prospect allowance on Sale, and Kimbrel, and a few middle relievers, instead of saving up for a big toy, and while Sale and Kimbrel have paid some dividends, let's not forget that the Sox could have instead tried to re-sign Andrew Miller or Aroldis Chapman and not given up those prospects for Kimbrel.

As for winning in the playoffs; the bottom line is this: Sale has to be Sale and Price has to be price, and either Rodriguez or Porcello need to pitch to their potential. If that happens, the Sox would be tough to beat. If it doesn't happen, they won't win.
